contest!

recently, my friends and i gathered to put an end to a neverending dilemma slash source of great angst: shitty captions in the new yorker cartoon caption contest. as i have said in the past, if you're not a part of the solution, then you, my friend, sure are part of the problem. that hazy photo above was the most recent cartoon sans caption (deadline feb 4th). the contest became a little more exciting, as the website was down from february 3-4.

of course, i wrote the new yorker letting them know of the problem:

To whom it may concern:

The URL for the cartoon caption contest does not work. Will today remain the deadline for the caption contest? Thank you.

Yours,

alas, the new yorker wrote back!

Dear Caption Contest Participant,
Thank you for taking the time to write. There were some technical problems with the contest web page this weekend and we apologize if you were unable to enter before the deadline. Normally we do not accept captions submitted via e-mail, but in this case we are making an exception and will be reviewing e-mailed captions from people who had a trouble submitting. Sorry again for the confusion, and we hope you will continue to enjoy the contest.

Sincerely,
The Cartoon Department

Score! I submitted the following entries posthaste:

1) If you wanted a domestic partner so badly, we could have moved to New Jersey.
2) Your homeowner's policy doesn't cover hangnails.
3) My god, what happened to your foot?
4) I would have understood if you had said you were getting a man-icure!
5) For $250 an hour do I at least get to keep the clippings?
6) How could I have let this go on for so long?
7) Have you had enough of the wild side?
8) I don't think that webcam is on.
9) Are you ready to come home now?

we are ready for our framed cartoon, new yorker!

I think the one that says "What happened to your foot" is like the funniest thing I have ever seen because if you like really LOOK AT HER FOOT it is like the craziest thing you have ever seen -- all shrunken and weird with like eleven tiny toes
